Hi hi!!! omg i have to meet up with Erin and Jackie at 7am tomorrow for our bible study until 7:30. AND i am supposed to read all of Hebrews by Thursday, AND i have to memorize an entire page of text for zong he. I just showered and im heading out prob downstairs to memorize the text with Nicholas. The teacher actually is making us sing now...I DONT WANNA SING! Sun (the plain korean girl) had to sing last week, as well as Paula (old italian classmate). I missed it though but she said it was embarassing....ugh shoot... have a good day at work. I wont be back on the comp so write back to me!!! oh also, im getting these weird "bites" from an invisible bug or something. i got two of them on my left palm, ontop of my left index finger, and 3 on my elbow on my left arm. I dont know where im getting these because ill be sitting in class with no bugs, and eating dinner with no bugs! wtf!

Also, we had our "goodbye" dinner for Ivan. We had peking duck and a lot of other food. We also got little cakes as a surprise too and we all made toasts. Ivan cried a little...it was really fun but really sad at the same time. He leaves back to Texas at 3pm. im sad too.

Last Day in Korea

today is the last day and we went to eat "sam gap tang" (chicken with ginseng and other herbs boiled in a soup for a very long time, and stuffed inside the chicken was rice). It was sooooo good. Thirteen US dollars though, but Su said that it was a traditional korean dish where it is supposed to be really healthy for you and you should eat it during the hot days in the summer. After that, we went to the korean castle, and then to the Coex Shopping Mall.

It took about 45 minutes on the subway to go there, but unfortunately, the stores in the Coex mall are more name-brand expensive stuff so i didnt do any shopping. At that mall, we had Red Mango. At Red Mango, they offer a variety of non fat frozen yogurt ice cream, shaved ice, shaved yogurt sorbert, freshly made on the spot waffles with yogurt and fruit topping. Out of the 6 of us, we ordered a large thing is this thing where it had 3 scoops of strawberry sorbert, raspberries, granola, raspberry shaved ice on the bottom and topped with a large swirl of yogurt soft serve ice cream. SOOOO GOOOOD. That was 13 US dollars though for the large. Then we also ordered a large cranberry waffle which came with an extra three mounds of yogurt soft serve ice cream. IT WAS RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Ivan says that we have Red Mango in the states, but I don't think Minnesota has it. BOO!! YUM YUM im drooling just thinking about it.

So we ate lunch at about 1pm, and then we ate Red Mango at 4pm, then ate Kraze Burger inside the Coex mall at 4:30pm. At Kraze burger, i had the KG burger where it was meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, shitake mushrooms, mayo, and the kraze bugolgi sauce. IT WAS SOOOO GOOOOOOD TOOOO! My burger was 8,900 won, so about 8.90 US Dollars. MMM YUMMM. The burger was a good size too, but I think the bugolgi sauce really did the trick. After eating Kraze burger for a snack before dinner time, we had dinner at about 7:30pm at a place near the subway station Kyoek University? We ate korean bbq with bugolgi meat, sam gap sai meat, and another meat which i do not know what exactly it is...but nonetheless, IT WAS SOO GOOD.

Then, we took the subway to Myeongdong to do more last minute shopping! I bought 2 pairs of heels (each were 34 USD), 1 pair of gladiator sandals (28 USD), one white button up shirt for 10 USD, 1 red cardigan for 10 USD. Then it started raining around 11pm and everyone started packing up! The place was supposed to close at 11:30pm but the rain made vendors leave and go home early....BOO! The rain wasnt even that bad! Anyways, I didnt get to stop by krispy kreme to eat more doughnuts, but Ivan got a box of 6 but I dont think he is willing to share. boooo. Man i bought so much stuff. Good thing Nick brought a large suitcase hehehehehe!!!!!!!

I still have about 30,000 won leftover, so about 30 USD. Maybe ill just keep it as a "souvenior"? Who knows, maybe my roommate wants it. We leave tomorrow at 5am to head to the airport. The plane takes off at 8:10am and should be back in bejing by 9:10am or so...booo! We still have about 3 liters of pop left over in the fridge, 2 bottles of Soju, 1 bottle of Max beer, 5 cans of Welch, and one unopened korean meat red sauce. GAH What to do!!!!!!!!!!

Korean Adventures

Room wise, we have this large residential/ apartment suite where there is one twin bed, one king bed, one futon leather sofa, one kitchen, one washer for clothes, one bathroom, desks closets etc. Ivan sleeps on the floor, me and tina share the king bed, nick sleeps on the couch futon, and then Su stayed over last night so she slept on the twin. Normally, Ivan or Nick would take the twin bed but since Su stayed with us last night, they let her sleep on it.

Lunch yesterday was SUPER GOOD. Some kind of noodles that isnt made out of flour in this sauce which was very similar to that other japanese dish........the noodles in a dark brown sauce that tastes sweet..? It also had braised chicken in it. We also had this hotpot like thing where it was all red with seafood and rice cake flour sticks inside. That was good too but very spicy.

Omg we went shopping yesterday for about 4-5 hours and i bought about 200 USD worth of stuff. Two pairs of earrings, 3 pairs of shorts, 2 shirts, 1 necklace...and...dont remember ne more. I saw two pairs of heels that I am going to buy but since we shopped until 8pm, the guys got really bored because they were wandering around outside and eating stuff, and so we had to go and meet up with them for dinner. They actually took the subway and went to another location so we had to find them. It took maybe a half a hour to meet up with them.

Then we had KOREAN BBQ LAST NIGHT. No bugolgi though because Su said that Koreans never really eat bugolgi LOL! Strange huh!? Us foreigners just think that they eat bugolgi all the time but in actuality, they eat "sam gup sai" more often (pig belly meat...really fattening). I dont remember the name of the meat we ate but it was really good.

Vince and Su did the cooking because we had two stoves, and then you would wrap it in this green kimchi, dip it in this red hotsauce, then into bean curd powder, then into this sauce where you let onions float in it. SOOOO GOOD. KOREA HAS THE BEST FOOD EVER. Then! Since it is Buddah's birthday, they had these lantern celebrations at this canal. It was really really pretty.

We walked along the canal after dinner. Afterwards, we went in search of a Red Mango and we finally found it! It said it closes at midnight but when we went up there at 11pm, they were already closed! Red Mango serves soft serve yogurt ice cream, cakes, smoothies, coffee, really fun looking yogurt slushies, cool looking shaved iced treats. Since Red mango was closed, we went to another place where we had Soju cocktails. We got this strawberry mixture cocktail, and then a kiwi one. I guess Su and Vince didnt like the kiwi one, but i drank everything because it tasted like juice. Super yummy.

Party Time

omg such a long day. Yesterday (Friday 5/14/2010), Nick, Tina, Ivan and I had a party at our Hyundai Residence suite (where we are staying) with the koreans Su, Gong mei, Miyi and Vince. Su, Gong mei, and Vince went to BLCU with Nick two years ago so he met up with his old classmates and we partied. We went to buy "sam gup sai" (pig belly meat), Soju (korean alcohol), Max beer, Welch's grape soda (white grape and purple grape), lettuce, rice, Milikis (milk soda), Fanta, Pepsi, and Makoli (rice alcohol) and of course KIMCHI! We went to buy groceries at Lotte Mart? I guess it is very similar to a Walmart.

The total was 151,000 won, which is about 151 USD. We had a total of 8 people, so it was about 18 USD per person. We would take the lettuce and wrap it around the meat, rice and this korean red sauce which wasn't super spicy but it had a very nice taste to it. We had so much food left over. After eating, we played drinking games. There was this one "horse race" game, "007 game", "Chiminanda"????? They were all very fun.

The koreans were very lively and very energetic haha. They even have this dance and chant thing they do when youre drinking down your shot of alcohol when you mess up during the game. We were so loud that the next door neighbor banged on the wall, the front desk called, and a hotel person came up hahahaha. We bought groceries at 7pm, then didnt go to bed until 1am.

Today, we woke up at 10am and didn't leave until about noon. We went to this restaurant which is supposedly famous because the ex- korean president ate there. The line was just so long that we had to go to another place to eat. This other place was on the 2nd floor...i forgot the name........but anyways, Su ordered this thing where there are strips of meat and 3 kinds of kimchi. You wrap the meat in the kimchi lettuce leaves and eat it. Also, we had this potato noodle with salad on top. The potato noodles were very bouncy and REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD.

I even like eating Kimchi now!! ALso, there was seaweed soup MMMYUMMMMMMMM!! Oh by the way, we met up with Nick's other friend, David. He is from Australia but he is living and teaching english here in Korea. Su had to leave after lunch, so David brought us to a Korean palace (which was kinda boring but at least its free), and then to the Myeongdong station so that we could go to the N Seoul tower (Nam Jong tower?). David just dropped us off at the cable cars because he had to go have a family dinner. At this N Seoul tower, we went all the way up and got to see the entire city. We had to take a cable car up (7500 won), then pay another 8000 won to go to the top of the tower by elevator.

After that, we took the cable car back down and then went to find dinner in this shopping district right by the Myeongdong subway station. There, we had japanese ramen hahaha. My ramen was 9500 won. Unfortunately, it was very spicy so i didnt finish all of it. Then we went shopping and i got a lot of makeup stuff...$150 USD worth. ALSO! THERE IS A KRISPY KREME HERE! OMG. Ivan and I were standing in line and then since they just had fresh doughnuts out, we got one for free! Then i also bought a green tea doughnut, which was okay, but not as good as the originals. I also had this soft serve ice cream that was like 9 inches tall. It was a mango and strawberry twist. Unfortunately, I just ate a krispy kreme doughnut so then it tasted kinda like bitter milk when i went to eat the ice cream.

After that, we walked around on the night market streets and just looked at random things like shoes and clothes. The place is HUGE. I will definitely need to go back another day and dedicated a couple of hours to really buy some nice shoes and clothes. You can bargain there, but I dont even know how to count to 10 in korean so it is kinda difficult to get things at a good price haha. We went home at 11pm because that is when all of the stores close. I was in the makeup store with Tina from about 9:45pm-11pm hhaa. The person who helped me spoke Mandarin really well, and she also spoke English too so it was fun. We then walked about 10 minutes to the subway then went one stop to Chungmuro station, and then walked another 15 minutes and now we are HOME! GOODNIGHT! BTW, korea is very clean, they have western toilets and toilet paper, and the subways are also very clean but lack trash bins...strangely... temperature is very nice (70's for high and 50's for the low).

Just Arrived into Seoul South Korea

HIIIIIIII!!!!

we just got to our place! We are staying at the Hyundai Residence on chungmuro?? It is SUPER NICe!! Just like an apartment but with one king size bed, one twin size bed, and one leather sofa. All hard wood maple floors, kitchen, bathroom, A LOT of closet space, FREE INTERNET!, we are on the 14th floor with a great view!!!!!!! AHH!! It wasnt hard getting here either. After we arrived at the airport, we went to the transportation desk and got tickets for the bus limosine. You tell them what hotel you are staying at or what place you would like to go and then they will find you the appropriate bus ticket. The limosine was 14,000 won (korean currency). After we arrived to the nearest hotel, we had to walk a block to the Hyundai residence because the bus didnt directly drop us off there because it stops at the major hotels. We were the 7th stop and there were a total of 8 stops. The buses were SUPER NICE! Even better than business class/ first class airplane seats!! Very clean, people spoke a little english so it was very easy.
